Baby Wont Go Back to Sleep After Night Feeding

My baby usually goes off to sleep in his bedside crib quite easily after his feed around 10-11pm and goes into a deep sleep. He usually wakes around 1-3am for another feed. However he never really goes back into a deep sleep after this point. He has lots of short bursts of sleep in his crib or on me /my husband.

I do the night feed the same way as the one before bed (in bed, dark room etc) so can't work out why he goes down well after the first one.

My baby is 8 weeks but was born prematurely. Not sure if this is relevant.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Very tired mum and dad here! [emoji23]

I don't know how to help but my little one is the same! She is 5 weeks and sleeps soundly for the first part of the night but after her night feed she is very unsettled! She waves her arms around and kicks about her crib although her eyes are shut. She wakes up every now and again but falls back asleep. And it's like this for the next few hours until she wakes up for her next feed! If you figure out how to resolve it let me know ha ha!

I'm also having this problem - Charlotte is 3 weeks old today though (born term), so I'd put it down to her just getting used to night / day. I'm breastfeeding so not sure if this has anything to do with it? She settles well in the day but seems to wake up of a night. Hopefully someone can give us some suggestions. x

It's just completely normal for babies to do this until they are about 12 weeks old. They just prefer to be held because they are still getting used to being out in the real world

Have you tried swaddling? Really helps to contain the thrashing and the startle reflex.
We have a swaddle where baby can move her arms and bring her hands to her mouth

I co sleep untill my babies are 3 months old. Have u read about the 4th trimester? I find he stays settled through the night knowing I'm close. Although I do appreciate there is a lot of controversy on the subject. I do it safely and I done it with all 5 of my kids.l x

I have exactly the same problem with my 10 day old baby, I'm not sure if I should feel encouraged I'm not alone or daunted that it could go on so long lol! I'm trying a hot water bottle in the crib tonight during the feed so it's warm when I put her down, I'll see if that helps

I've just spoken to my midwife about it - she suggested to have the tv or music on of a night time - she said it could be too quiet for baby to settle. I'm going to try it - anything is worth a try. x

How did it go? I use Ollie the owl on the white noise setting at night. It definitely helps!

My 8 week old is the same, I go to bed with her at 7.30/8 so I can get some sleep! She sleeps for the first stretch then after that her eyes are closed but she's thrashing about unsettled and wanting to feed every hour (breastfed). We co sleep and play nature music on her light projector. I've tried swaddling but she won't settle tills she's broken out (even breaks out the velcro ones). She sleeps great on us during the day, I'm happy to co sleep but don't want her to sleep on me as id be scared of dropping her x
